Requirements

Florida Department of Health, EMS certification (MQA) runs a single statewide clock. Every active Florida paramedic certificate in this cohort expires at midnight ET, December 1, 2026 (Florida DOH). Do not use March 1 allergy-treatment expiration dates for paramedics.

Choose a competency path (plus ACLS on both) — 64J-1.009(2):

  1. 30-hour refresher based on the January 2009 U.S. DOT National EMS Education Standards, including at least 2 hours in pediatric emergencies, and hold current ACLS (64J-1.009(2)(a); §401.27(4)(e)2.).
  2. Pass the department paramedic certification exam during the current certification cycle and hold current ACLS (64J-1.009(2)(b)).

ACLS contact hours may sit inside the 30-hour total when the course meets DOH CE criteria under §401.2715 (64J-1.009(2)(a)).

First-time renewal. Per Florida DOH, CE is exempt on first renewal; current ACLS is still required.

Documentation. Affirm compliance at renewal. The department accepts affirmation of a licensed EMS provider’s medical director, or a certificate of completion from a department-approved Florida training program or continuing education provider (64J-1.009(2)(a)). Produce proof on request. Approved providers are listed in CEBroker (Florida DOH).

NREMT is a separate credential. Holding current NREMT does not, by itself, renew the Florida certificate. NREMT appears on the second involuntary-inactive reactivation path per Form DH 5023-MQA. That second period is a department-approved certification examination under 64J-1.011; DH 5023 names the NREMT paramedic exam.
