Can you work there on your current RN license?
A multistate compact (NLC) RN license lets you practice in other compact states under your home state's license. You still renew in your primary state of residence. Non-compact states (including California, New York, and others) need a separate single-state license.

No — California is not a compact state
California does not issue compact privileges, so you need a California RN license from California Board of Registered Nursing in addition to your Texas license. California has never joined the NLC. A California license is required to practice there.

Which state do I renew in with a compact license?
Your home state — your primary state of residence. The multistate license is issued and renewed there, and the privilege to practise in other compact states follows it.
Is California part of the Nurse Licensure Compact?
No. California has never joined the NLC, so you need a California license to practise there regardless of your home state.
What happens if I move to another state?
You apply for licensure by endorsement in your new primary state of residence and your former multistate license is deactivated. Keep both expirations visible while the change is processing.
Does a compact privilege cover telehealth?
Practice is generally deemed to occur where the patient is located, so a compact privilege can cover telehealth into other compact states. Non-compact states still require their own license.
