Nursys is the official record of your nursing license, published by the state boards themselves — and e-Notify will email you when that license is approaching expiration. Trust is your own copy of every credential you carry, with earlier reminders and the actual documents. They are not competitors: one is the authority, the other is your wallet.

What Nursys and e-Notify do

Nursys is run by NCSBN, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. Participating boards feed it licensure data for RNs, LPN/VNs, and APRNs, which makes a Nursys report primary-source verification — the thing employers, boards, and compact states accept as proof. e-Notify is the free companion service for nurses: enrol, and NCSBN emails you about your license status, discipline actions, and upcoming expiration. Employers can enrol their nurses too and receive the same status changes.

What it does not hold

Nursys is a licensure database, so its scope stops at licensure:

Resuscitation cards. BLS, ACLS, and PALS are issued by training organizations, not boards. They expire on two-year cycles that rarely line up with your license, and they are the most common reason a clinician gets pulled off a schedule.
Specialty certifications. CCRN, CEN, ARRT, NBRC/RRT, CPhT, CST, CMA, NREMT — separate bodies, separate cycles, none of them in Nursys.
The documents themselves. Nursys reports status; it does not store your card or certificate. When someone asks for a copy, you still have to find one.
Non-nursing roles. Paramedics, radiologic technologists, respiratory therapists, pharmacy techs, and surgical techs have no equivalent to e-Notify at all.
Long lead time. An expiration notice near the deadline is a reminder to pay, not enough runway to finish CE or find a class with open seats.
