How to renew your ARRT registration (and keep all three clocks running)
ARRT registration renews annually by the end of your birth month for a flat $65. Separately, most R.T.s must earn 24 Category A CE credits every two years — completed one month before the reporting deadline — and technologists certified since 2011 also complete CQR every ten years.
How to renew your ARRT registration (and keep all three clocks running)
- Annual renewal
- Last day of your birth month · $65 flat (any number of credentials)
- CE
- 24 Category A/A+ credits per biennium — completed by end of month BEFORE your birth month
- CQR
- Every 10 years for credentials earned on/after Jan 1, 2011 (pre-2011 exempt); 3-year window

- Know your two datesCE completion is due the end of the month BEFORE your birth month; annual renewal is due the end of your birth month. That one-month gap is ARRT's most-missed detail.
- Finish 24 Category A credits by the earlier dateSearch ARRT's CE tool for RCEEM-approved courses; ASRT is the largest provider. ACLS or PALS counts up to 6 credits once per biennium — plain BLS does not.
- Renew on the ARRT dashboardReport CE, answer both ethics questions (criminal charges/convictions and regulatory actions), and pay the flat $65 fee — one price regardless of how many credentials you hold.
- Start CQR early if your window is openCredentials earned on/after Jan 1, 2011 do CQR every 10 years within a 3-year window. Accepting the maximum CE prescription lets you skip the Structured Self-Assessment.
- Save certificates and the new card to TrustKeep CE certificates at least a year for random ARRT audits — longer is smarter because state boards may want more.
Requirements
ARRT's rules are best understood as three separate clocks, plus a fourth if you count your state license.
Clock 1 — Annual renewal. $65 online, due the last day of your birth month. Two ethics questions every year (criminal charges/convictions; regulatory actions — reportable within 30 days of occurrence). Postprimary credentials (CT, MRI, Mammo) also require maintaining the supporting credential.
Clock 2 — Biennial CE (the trap). 24 credits per two-year biennium. The biennium ends the last day of the month before your birth month — one month earlier than the renewal deadline. CE can only be reported during renewal, and once submitted, no changes. What counts: Category A/A+ from RCEEM-approved providers (ASRT is the largest; search ARRT's CE tool); academic courses (16 credits per semester credit); ACLS or PALS up to 6 credits once per biennium (plain BLS does not count); sonography credential holders need ≥16 sonography-specific credits. State-license CE double-counts only in FL, KY, MA, OR. Attestation + random monthly audits; 30 days to respond by mail; keep certificates at least a year.
Clock 3 — CQR. Credentials earned on/after Jan 1, 2011: every 10 years, with a 3-year window (roughly years 7–10). Three parts: professional profile, Structured Self-Assessment (skippable — accept the maximum CE prescription instead), and prescribed CE (which double-counts toward your biennial 24). No separate fee; $100 if you miss an SSA appointment. Incomplete CQR = discontinued credential.
State-license note. Most states license rad techs separately (CA via CDPH-RHB, TX via TMB) — a fourth clock with its own dates. ARRT current does not equal state current.

If you're late
Missed CE → CE probation. 6 months to complete + report + $100 fee. Probation credits do not count toward the new biennium; unresolved = discontinued and you retake the exam.
Missed renewal. Discontinued. Online reinstatement is $150 (no exam) if you are still within your biennium or less than 6 months past its end. Incomplete CQR gets a 1-year grace to fix and reinstate.
Beyond those windows → reinstatement by re-examination, $225.
The pattern: every ARRT lapse path is measured in months, and the exits all lead to the exam. Don't test the windows.
Frequently asked questions
- Why are my CE deadline and renewal deadline different?
- The biennium ends the last day of the month BEFORE your birth month; reporting happens at renewal by the end of your birth month. It is ARRT's most-missed detail.
- How much is ARRT renewal in 2026?
- A flat $65 regardless of how many credentials you hold. The old tiered $30 base + $25-per-credential pricing is gone.
- Do I have to do CQR?
- Only if your credential was earned on or after January 1, 2011. Credentials from before then are exempt from Continuing Qualifications Requirements.
- Does my BLS card count for CE?
- No. But ACLS or PALS counts for up to 6 Category A credits once per biennium.
- Is my ARRT registration the same as my state license?
- No. Most states license rad techs separately with their own renewal cycles — a fourth clock. ARRT current does not equal state current.

Trust runs all three ARRT clocks side-by-side — annual $65, biennial CE (with the one-month gap), and your 10-year CQR window — plus your state rad-tech license, so nothing slips.
