NREMT recertification fees change October 1, 2026

What changed / what to know

The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) publishes recertification-by-continuing-education fees by application date, not by your March 31 expiration.

On the EMT Recertification page (fetched 2026-09-21): recertification fee through 09/30/26 is $25; 10/01/26 and after is $29. Late fee is $50 + renewal fee. Examination fee is $104 per attempt (this line did not change in the October 1 table).

On the Paramedic Recertification page (fetched 2026-09-21): recertification fee through 09/30/26 is $32; 10/01/26 and after is $37. Late fee is $50. Examination fee is $175 per attempt (this line did not change in the October 1 table).

An application submitted on or before September 30, 2026 is the current amount. An application submitted October 1, 2026 or later is the new amount — even if your credential still expires March 31 of a later year.

Do not mix this calendar date with the recurring October 1 that opens the continuing-education application window (six months before a March 31 EMT, AEMT, or paramedic expiration). That window repeats every cycle. The fee table change is a one-time 2026-10-01 cutoff on nremt.org.

Do not use one level’s numbers for another. Recert-by-CE through 2026-09-30 versus from 2026-10-01: EMT $25 then $29 (nremt.org EMT Recertification); Paramedic $32 then $37 (nremt.org Paramedic Recertification); AEMT $26 then $30 (nremt.org AEMT Recertification). EMR recertification fees were not re-verified for this post.

Reinstatement is a separate charge. For EMT, AEMT, and paramedic, if the CE application is not in by March 31, the Recertification Guide allows April 1–30 reinstatement: $50 in addition to the regular recertification application fee. Continuing education dated during the reinstatement period is not accepted. There is no guarantee a reinstatement application will be accepted.

State EMS licenses remain a separate fee and a separate portal.

Who it affects

Nationally Registered EMTs and paramedics (and AEMTs, at the AEMT amounts above) who will submit a recertification-by-CE application on or after October 1, 2026. Recertification by examination uses the examination fee on each level’s recertification page, not the CE fee table.

What to do

1. Confirm your National Registry level and March 31 expiration in your nremt.org account. Do not use a paramedic fee for EMT recert, or the reverse.
2. If you can complete NCCP hours and submit the CE application on or before September 30, 2026, you pay the current recert-by-CE amount ($25 EMT / $32 paramedic).
3. If you will submit October 1, 2026 or later, budget the new amount ($29 EMT / $37 paramedic).
4. Keep April 1–30 reinstatement in view: $50 plus whatever recert-by-CE amount is then in force. Finish CE by March 31. Do not count April-dated hours.
5. Treat your state card as a different clock. NREMT recertification does not pay a state EMS office fee.
6. Add the National Registry credential you actually hold so the March 31 clock and the October 1 CE window sit next to this fee table.
